JAKARTA (Dow Jones)--PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA.JK) expects its
sales volume to rise 31% this year to 16.9 million metric tons due to rising
demand from buyers and higher coal production at its Kalimantan mine, its
Chief Executive Officer said Wednesday.
"Demand from India, Australia and Vietnam is increasing," Sukrisno, who
uses a single name, told reporters.
He said the state-owned company was targeting an increase in coal output to
17.6 million tons this year from 13.1 million tons last year.
Sukrisno also said the company was studying the possibility of developing a
coal gasification project in Riau with Germany's Lurgi's AG, with an annual
capacity of 800,000 British thermal units.
If the project is set up, the company will sell the gas to PT Pertamina
under a 30-year contract, Sukrisno said.
